Head of Finance

Worcester

Purpose of the Role

The Head of Finance is integral to the financial operations at this organisation.

This role is accountable for the accuracy and integrity of the financial systems and reports. The Head of Finance collaborates closely with the CEO and the Board of Directors, contributing strategically to the development and future planning.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Analysis:
    • Prepare monthly management accounts using Sage Intacct.
    • Produce detailed monthly financial reports with commentary for budget holders.
    • Monitor budgets, approve purchase requisitions, and control spending.
    • Translate financial data into actionable business insights for directors and budget holders.
  • Cash Flow & Audit Management:
    • Manage cash flow with detailed forecasts and performance monitoring.
    • Lead annual financial audits to ensure timely, clean audit reports.
    • Present financial matters at Board meetings, to bankers, ECB, and other stakeholders.
  • Compliance & Payroll:
    • Handle statutory submissions, including Companies House, FCA, ONS surveys, BACS, and HMRC.
    • Approve monthly payroll data from an outsourced provider for salaried and casual staff.
  • Team Management & Process Improvement:
    • Oversee the finance team responsible for sales ledger invoicing, income recording, credit control, bank reconciliations, and payroll preparation.
    • Enhance reporting efficiencies and work systems.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Occasionally perform purchase ledger processing, including raising purchase orders, processing invoices, and preparing payments.
    • Maintain a flexible, motivated approach in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications & Experience:
    • Fully qualified AAT or equivalent Management Accountant with significant experience and career development aspirations.
    • Proficient in IT, particularly Excel.
    • Experienced in managing diverse stakeholders within a business.
  • Desirable:
    • Qualified CIMA / ACCA / ACA accountant or equivalent.
  • Personal Qualities:
    • Ability to make independent, reasoned decisions and meet tight deadlines.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Team player with emotional intelligence and adaptable communication skills.
    • Commercially minded with a methodical approach to tasks.
    • Experience in a finance manager role or similar, with advanced analytical and Excel skills.
    • High level of technical competence and attention to financial detail.

Employment Terms

  • Hours & Flexibility:
    • Full-time role (35 hours/week over 5 days). Part-time (4 days) considered for the right candidate.
    • Hybrid working available during quieter periods.
    • Occasional evening and weekend work required during the busy season.
