Facilities Maintenance Operative
£27,000 - £28,000 + On call bonus of £1,200
Worcester, Worcestershire
40 hours per week, on a rota basis between 7am - 6pm
As a Facilities Maintenance Operative at a prestigious independent school, you will play a key role in ensuring the continued upkeep and functionality of the school's facilities. Your primary responsibility will be carrying out general repairs and maintenance across the school, ensuring the safety, security, and overall condition of the school environment. You will also support the wider estates team in event setup, security, and the daily operations that ensure the smooth running of the school.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Carry out repairs across the entire school site, utilizing skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, plastering, painting, and general building maintenance. Training will be provided in certain areas as needed.
- Operate and maintain school plant (e.g., boilers), safety systems (fire and smoke detection), and security systems (alarms, cameras) to ensure they function properly.
- Conduct routine checks such as fire alarm tests, emergency lighting, legionella inspections, and other necessary health and safety procedures, in compliance with the school's safety regulations.
- Report maintenance issues promptly to the Head of Estates and assist in updating the maintenance schedule to ensure ongoing upkeep of the school's buildings and facilities.
- Assist with setting up for school events, including assemblies, concerts, parents' evenings, and externally hired events, ensuring that all facilities and logistics are in place.
- Securely open and close the school premises according to established security protocols, ensuring the safety of the school and its occupants.
- Participate in training for specific equipment and working practices, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and best practices.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Experience: Prior experience in facilities maintenance is desirable, particularly in an educational or similar prestigious environment.
- Maintenance Skills: A solid skill set in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, plastering, or general building work is essential. Training will be provided where necessary.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a variety of staff members across different departments.
- DBS Check: An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.
